About EdWorkingPapers: The Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, with the partnership of the SCALE Initiative at Stanford University, offers EdWorkingPapers, a national working paper series, to provide open access to high-quality papers from multiple disciplines and from multiple universities and research organizations on a wide variety of topics related to education. EdWorkingPapers focuses particularly on empirical research with strong implications for education policy. The initiative has expanded from a site that released just two papers in 2018 into a highly trafficked and highly cited website, circulating over 200 papers in 2022.
EdWorkingPapers Advisory Board: The EdWorkingPapers Advisory Board will provide strategic guidance for the initiative and support the work through ongoing reviews of working paper submissions. As part of the advisory board, incoming members will have the opportunity to shape the direction of the EdWorkingPapers series by drawing on their diverse disciplinary perspectives and methodological approaches.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a member of the EdWorkingPapers Advisory Board, you will:
- Provide Strategic Guidance: Collaborate with fellow board members to provide feedback on ideas for refining the research series to better meet its goals:
- Upholding and enhancing quality and rigor—Board members will advise on refining criteria for acceptance into EdWorkingPapers.
- Expanding the contributor pool—Board members will advise on the process for contributor identification, helping to create a broader set of contributors that can fill topical and methodological gaps and enhance the comprehensiveness of the EdWorkingPapers series.
- Promoting dissemination—Board members will provide input on outreach strategies, potential collaborations, and ways to engage with the wider educational community.
- Review Paper Submissions: Review and provide brief feedback on research papers submitted to the series, ensuring academic rigor, methodological soundness, and relevance to educational policy. Each board member will review up to three papers per month, each with a short turnaround time. Note that this is not a full peer review, just an assessment of fit.
Qualifications:
We seek educational researchers with the following:
- A strong record of scholarly publications, achievements, and peer review experience in educational research;
- An ability to collaborate with diverse thinkers to provide strategic guidance on the achievement of broad goals;
- An ability to commit to quarterly or biannual meetings and limited rapid-cycle reviewing.
Term and Commitment:
The initial term of service on the board is one year, from November 2023 – November 2024, with the possibility of extension. The board will convene for quarterly or biannual virtual meetings, with more frequent meetings at the beginning of the term in order to establish processes.
